Here are some of the questions we are often asked regarding our industry and the services we provide.

Why can’t I or my regular custodial staff clean up a crime scene?

OSHA Regulation 29CFR1910.1030 states that no employee can be placed in a position to be exposed to blood spills without first:

Receiving bloodborne pathogen (BBP) training.
Having a written BBP exposure control plan.
Having been provided personal protective equipment (PPE).
Having been offered a Hepatitis B vaccine, exposure evaluation, and follow up.
Being provided with a method to remove and properly store the bio-hazardous waste in properly marked containers for disposal at an approved site.

Only after these five (5) criteria have been met can an employer require his/her employee to perform bio-hazard clean-up.

Can I be penalized if I choose to have an employee clean up the crime scene?

Yes. Non-compliance with 29CFR1910.1030 can result in OSHA fines ranging from $7,000 – $70,000. More importantly, you are placing your employees, yourself, and your customers at risk.

Will my insurance company reimburse me for crime scene cleanup expenses?

In most cases, insurance (home, business, auto) will reimburse you for our cleaning and remediation services. If you are the victim of a crime and have no insurance, we can help you file the paperwork needed to obtain state aid.

Do we have to pay for these services up front?

No. If you are a homeowner, we will work directly with you and your insurance company. If you are the victim of a crime, Alabama Bio-Clean will perform all required remediation services to remove and clean the location of an accident or incident without requiring payment at the time of service. We will then assist in the filing of insurance claims or obtaining reimbursement from Victim’s Assistance services.
